Your friendly tutors, Britt and Andrew will be on hand at all times during the workshop to closely guide you and the other participants through each step, ensuring each person makes their own ring(s) entirely by themselves. You will have a choice of making two stacking rings with a semi-precious gemstone or one chunky, textured ring. The steps include sizing your finger, measuring the amount of silver needed, filing the metal, shaping the ring, using a blowtorch, adding texture, setting a stone the traditional way without glue and many other skills. Silver and tool use is included in the price, your ring(s) will go with you ready to wear at the end of the class! Our pendant making workshop is without a doubt our most creative short class for beginners. Use a whole range of traditional silversmithing skills to create your jewellery made from sterling silver, fine silver and semi-precious stones. We'll use a whole range of techniques to create your assemblage pendant. We start by creating your base shape in silver which in the photo is a circle however you can create any shape you desire. To this we'll add your components which you will make by hand. All the components will need soldering on using our hand held blowtorches (with the exception to the stones which will be wire wrapped). You'll use 925 Solid Sterling Silver and will have the option to add brass solderables, in the photo we have used a butterfly but we'll have plenty of other options on the day to make your pendant unique to you.
On this introduction to stone setting workshop you will be taken through the steps to creating a beautiful piece of jewellery featuring a semi-precious stone cabochon set in sterling silver. On this full day workshop we'll start by designing your piece. You'll first select your stone and work from there, we have many variable options to make the piece truly unique to you. Depending on your competency with silversmithing your design can be either more or less complex. We welcome people at all stages of their jewellery making even complete beginners. If you have no history of silversmithing whatsoever we'll recommend you take a ring class or 5 week course with us first. You'll also be entitled to a discount if you book your stone setting class with another class. On the day you'll be able to purchase your cabochon separate as it is not included in the price. We have discounted the class to allow people to either bring their own or search through our endless amounts of cabochons and pick one at their budget. Stone prices range from £1 to £30 and more expensive ones are available on request. Silver will also need to be purchased on the day cost an average of £5 for a stone set medium sized ring. Silver will be weighed and charged prior to setting the stone. We'll provide light refreshments and nibbles but we recommend you bring a lunch.
